Twitter has become a continuous stream of departing celebrities in the last few weeks following Elon Musk’s takeover. The latest to announce they are leaving the platform is Jim Carrey, who posted a message to fans announcing that he will no longer be using the social media site and shared a new short animation as a parting gift.Jim Carrey has recently suggested that he is ready to retire from the Hollywood machine. While he has returned to manic form playing the villainous Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, his inclusion in the third installment is currently uncertain. While this has not been made official by Carrey yet, it seems that his time on Twitter is something that is definitely over. He wrote:

“I’m leaving Twitter, but 1st here’s a cartoon I made with my friend Jimmy Hayward. It’s based on my painting of a crazy old Lighthouse Keeper, standing naked in a storm, summoning the angels and shining his lamp to guide us through a treacherous night. I love you all so much!”

Is Jim Carrey Really Retiring From Acting?

Back in April this year, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 saw Jim Carrey reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik, but during promotion for the movie, he seemed to reveal that he was done with acting. During part of one interview the actor said:

“Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious. It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break... I really like my quiet life and I really like putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life and I feel like — and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists — I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.”

Even though he has not been seen in quite as many movies as in the 90s and 2000s, Jim Carrey has continued to be highly praised for the roles he has appeared in recently after a string of middling roles. His appearance in a Verizon Super Bowl commercial as his The Cable Guy character even had many fans hoping that the actor could be about to make belated returns to some of his older franchises, such as Ace Ventura. However, Carrey has pretty much ruled out returning to any of his iconic roles and could well be serious about stepping away from Hollywood.

Currently, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is in production, with the script being written by Violent Night scribes Pat Casey and Josh Miller, but there has been no word yet whether Jim Carrey will be back for the threequel. Unfortunately, his departure from Twitter means that his presence on social media could also be taking a step back, and that will be another sad realization for his many fans.
