Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked director Mike Mitchell has signed on to direct Jitters for Paramount Pictures. We first reported on this project back in October 2009.

Marc Haimes, a former DreamWorks executive, wrote the screenplay, which is said to revolve around genetically altered bugs. The project is a family adventure, which will be similar in tone to the Amblin Entertainment movies of the 1980s. Chris Bender and J.C. Spink will produce through their BenderSpink banner.

Mike Mitchell is best known for directing CG animated features such as Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked and Shrek Forever After. He also directed live-action tales such as Sky High and Surviving Christmas.

No production schedule was released for Jitters.
