Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman said earlier this week that J.J. Abrams (Lost) will be directing Star Trek XI.

"We're revitalizing it in a new and interesting way," he said.

The studio plans to bring the film to theaters in 2008 or 2009.

Lost creative team, Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk are teaming with Abrams to write the project.
