After over four decades, Jamie Lee Curtis is saying her final farewell to Halloween with this week's release of Halloween Ends. The movie serves as the third and final installment of a new trilogy of films that began at Blumhouse with director David Gordon Green in 2018. No matter what happens with Laurie and arch-nemesis Michael Myers in the film, Halloween Ends was designed to bring closure to Laurie's story and appears to truly be the end of JLC playing the role of Laurie Strode.
Addressing the film in a new interview with Jake's Takes, Curtis couldn't help but get emotional when speaking about the legacy she has as the star of Halloween. Horror fans far and wide have made it clear to the actress, and continue to do so on a daily basis, just how inspiring she has been for them with her unforgettable performance as one of horror's most popular final girls. Getting choked up, Curtis explains how "powerful" it is to be in that position.
"Really, the message of Halloween is not to give up. That Laurie Strode being the ultimate survivor is this beautiful badge that I wear everywhere I go, because what I represent to people is never giving up. They have poured all of their stuff, and every person in the world has had trials and tribulations and difficulties and struggles, and have survived violence, and all kinds of horrible things. And Laurie Strode, through the portal of Halloween, represents not to give up, and that, if you think about being known for something, the idea that I get to be known as the girl who never gave up is a really powerful, powerful legacy that I don't take for granted at all. I am moved by it every time I really think about it."
JLC Will Carry Laurie With Her Forever
This is likely the end of Jamie Lee Curtis starring in Halloween movies as Laurie Strode. That does not mean that the iconic character will no longer be a part of JLC's life. In fact, as the scream queen goes on to explain, Laurie is not going anywhere because the final girl will forever be synonymous with Curtis. And that's just fine with Curtis, who couldn't be more honored.
"Oh, sure (I'll miss her). The beautiful part is I'll never, ever be separated from her, because everywhere I go, that's who people (know me for). I don't care what I do, it doesn't matter. Everywhere I go, people know me from Halloween, and they love me for Halloween because they love Laurie Strode. So, Laurie Strode and Jamie Lee Curtis are absolutely woven together, and when I'm dead, (the headlines will read) 'Halloween actress dies.' Done. There is no separation of church and state here. I am Laurie Strode, Laurie Strode is Jamie Lee Curtis. We are the same."
Halloween Ends will be premiering in theaters and on Peacock on Oct. 14, 2022.
