Jodie Markell has been hired to direct the drama, The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond for Constellation Entertainment.
The film stars Lindsay Lohan; Markell will be marking her feature directorial debut on the film from the screenplay by playwright Tennessee Williams.
Variety describes the film as a dramatic, sometimes downbeat work; it centers on class tensions in 1920s Memphis, in particular on a romance between a society woman and a plantation worker.
Ellen Burstyn, David Strathairn and Ann-Margret are also attached to the cast. The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond is set to begin shooting this spring in Louisiana.
