Triggerfish: According to Variety, Paramount has decided to reel in Triggerfish, tapping Emmy-nommed siblings Joe and Anthony Russo to direct the thriller.

The scripting team of Laurence Malkin and Chad Thumann are writing the pic, based on a story by Ron Malfi. Michel Shane and Anthony Romano of Romano/Shane Prods. put the project together with Malfi and are attached to exec produce.

Plot, set in the post-9/11 world of supposed interagency cooperation, revolves around a high-ranking Secret Service agent who defies the FBI by harassing one of its informants with a professional interdepartmental investigation that quickly grows into a personal hatred that could cost the agent his life.

The brothers are aiming to evoke the feel of 1970s-style thrillers such as The French Connection, Three Days of the Condor and The Parallax View.

"We think that those kind of character-oriented films were effective partly because they reflected the kind of creeping darkness of those times," Joe Russo said.
