Screen Media Films has acquired Joe Pantoliano and Marcia Gay Harden starrer Canvas for theatrical release, according to Variety.

The first film from writer-director Joseph Greco is inspired by his childhood and explores mental illness through the eyes of a child as he learns to cope with his schizophrenic mother.

The movie will open in New york, Boston, Fort Lauderdale and Phoenix on October 12 as part of its platform release.
