Benito Mueller and Wolfgang Müller of Barry Films today announced that horror legend John Carpenter will serve as the executive producer of The Hell Within. Carpenter is teaming up with award-winning Brazilian director Dennison Ramalho and scribe Jeff Buhler (Midnight Meat Train). Barry Films will produce The Hell Within, which is based on an original idea by Ramalho, together with Storm King Productions' Sandy King.

The Hell Within tells the story of a woman who goes on a quest into the heart of a Brazilian jungle to save a girl, only to discover that the girl was just the bait.

Benito Mueller: "We are very excited to have John Carpenter as a partner. Not only is he bringing great visibility to the project, he is also a great asset for director Dennison Ramalho to work with."

Dennison Ramalho: "John Carpenter re-wrote the landscape of horror with his seminal shape-shifting monster film The Thing, so I am obviously thrilled to have him on board. Our film has a similar component..."

The Hell Within will be structured as a Brazilian/German co-production and will be filmed in the Amazon jungles of Brazil. Barry Films is currently in production at the MMC Studios Cologne on When Pigs Have Wings, an off-beat look at the Gaza conflict, in coproduction with Marilyn Productions and Saga Film, and in post-production on The Bad Intentions, a Peruvian tale in the tradition of South American magic realism.
