It's official, John Legend has been named by People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive 2019. "I'm excited but a little scared at the same time because it's a lot of pressure," says the Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award winner of this new prestigious honor he can add to his ever-growing list of major accomplishments.

Of course, Legend is being a bit modest about being crowned as this year's Sexiest Man Alive by praising last year's winner, adding: "Everyone's going to be picking me apart to see if I'm sexy enough to hold this title. I'm [also] following Idris Elba, which is not fair and is not nice to me!" You can take a look at Legend's PEOPLE cover below.

Legend is very well-known for his work as a musician, having released his debut album back in 2004. In addition to appearing on many notable songs for other artists, Legend has found incredible success on his own. His single "All of Me" charted in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, and in 2015, Legend won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Golden Globe Award for co-writing the song "Glory" for the Selma soundtrack.

He has also won a whopping ten Grammy awards for his work as a musician, and also won a Tony award in 2017 for co-producing the Broadway show Jitney. In 2017, he teamed up with Ariana Grande for Disney's Beauty and the Beast soundtrack, contributing a new theme song. He also played a role in the award-winning musical La La Land.

Musical success aside, Legend has also established himself as an actor and television star as well. In 2018, he famously portrayed Jesus Christ in the NBC adaptation of the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. For the part, Emmy was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award and won another for his role as a producer of the show. This makes him one of just 15 people and the first black man to have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, making him a part of the "EGOT" club. Additionally, Legend has appeared in many film and TV projects, and has recently been appearing as a coach on the reality singing competition series The Voice.

People has regularly been naming a different celebrity as each particular year's Sexiest Man Alive dating back to 1985, when a young Mel Gibson was the first man to be crowned with the title. The following years would see several notable stars given the honor, including Tom Cruise, Sean Connery, Brad Pitt, Keanu Reeves, Denzel Washington, Matt Damon, Channing Tatum, and Dwayne Johnson. A small handful of celebrities have managed to win the honor twice, including Johnny Depp, George Clooney, Richard Gere, and Brad Pitt. With Legend still at the top of his game in terms of both talent and looks, he's got a great chance to one day become a repeat winner as well.

You can pick up the new People magazine naming Legend as the Sexiest Man Alive 2019 when it goes on sale this week on Nov. 15. Additionally, you can catch Legend on the small screen with the Netflix film Between Two Ferns: The Movie and on new episodes of The Voice.on NBC. This news comes to us from People.com.
