Filmmaker John Stockwell has signed on to direct Code Name Geronimo for Voltage Pictures.

Kendall Lampkin wrote the screenplay, which is based on the real-life Navy SEAL mission to eliminate Osama Bin Laden. The story goes inside a small Navy SEAL unit and explores the tensions rising within the group, until they discover who their true target really is. Code Name Geronimo is the actual name for the SEAL mission which ended in Osama Bin Laden's death.

Principal photography is scheduled to start in January 2012. Voltage Pictures will be shopping the project to buyers at the American Film Market this week.

Sony also has a similar project with the Untitled Kathryn Bigelow Project from The Hurt Locker director/screenwriter team of Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal. This will also be based on the SEAL Team Six mission to take out Osama Bin Laden. Sony has handed out an October 12, 2012 release date for the Untitled Kathryn Bigelow Project.
