The cast of Lionsgate's John Wick 2 is coming together, as the sequel starts production this week. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Oscar-winning singer/actor Common has signed on to portray the main villain in this action sequel, alongside Keanu Reeves as the title character. No plot details have been released yet, but this report gives us a tiny taste at the adversaries John Wick will face.

Common is playing the primary villain, the head of security for a female crime lord. While Keanu Reeves is set to come back as John Wick, it hasn't been confirmed yet if other cast members from the original movie will return, such as Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Jason Isaacs and Alfie Allen. It isn't known how many new characters aside from Common's mysterious role will be added as filming gets set to begin.

In related news, Ian McShane is returning for John Wick 2, reprising his role as Winston, the owner of the Hotel Continental, which caters to the assassin community with its discretion, on-call doctors and no-killing rule. The hotel and its steely-eyed owner, who lethally enforces the rules, proved popular with audiences. No other cast members have been confirmed for John Wick 2 yet, but it's possible that we may see the return of Lance Reddick's Charon, who served as the Hotel Continental's manager. Keanu Reeves revealed that director Chad Stahelski and screenwriter Derek Kolstad have discussed what fans enjoyed about the first movie, including the Hotel Continental world, and are looking to bring back some of the more popular elements.

Chad Stahelski, who directed the original John Wick with David Leitch, is returning to take the helm on John Wick 2, although he will be directing solo. Both filmmakers had planned to tackle the sequel together, but they decided to split up for the time being, with Chad Stahelski taking on the sequel and David Leitch directing The Coldest City, which has Charlize Theron set to star. John Wick writer Derek Kolstad returned to write the script.

Common and John Legend won Oscars earlier this year for Best Original Song, "Glory," from Selma. On the big screen, he will voice a character in the Pixar animated movie Coco. He will also be seen in Barbershop 3 and the highly-anticipated superhero adventure Suicide Squad. What do you think about Common going up against Keanu Reeves in John Wick 2?
