The John Wick films have been enormously successful due to Keanu Reeves' impeccable performance and his commitment to the role of an assassin. After three blockbuster films, Reeves returns with another installment in the movie franchise, and this time the story feels more brutal than ever. While the first film simply scratched the surface of the crime syndicate, the succeeding films pushed it to the next level by adding numerous intriguing characters, such as Adjudicator, Director, and The Elder.

In the third installment John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, we saw John Wick outwit all assassins throughout the world after a massive bounty was placed on his head. However, he was saved by Bowery King before being shot by Winston, an unexpected betrayal. Furthermore, Bowery King is nearly killed by Zero's slashes for supporting John in his endeavor. He did, however, survive and met John Wick, with a similar ambition of bringing down the high table.

It puts fans in an exciting position, and many wonder what will happen in the upcoming film. With a sequel in the works, here's what we're hoping to see in John Wick: Chapter 4.

Wick nearly died a thousand times in John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, with danger lurking around every corner. He was constantly threatened by master assassins and betrayed by people like Winston, and he even sliced off his finger for leverage with the Elder.

For his next adventure, he's shown recovering with Bowery King, who was punished by Zero with seven slashes of a sword for assisting John. Before the action begins, the film will likely show a few moments of him recuperating and planning his next moves.

Finding True Allies and Weeding Out Enemies

John Wick Chapter 4 what to expect
Lionsgate

Wick has been through a lot in the previous three films, including multiple betrayals from other assassins who couldn't follow the rules of the high table for petty reward money and close allies abandoning him, such as Winston. However, enemies may be found among comrades, and allies can be found among foes.

Wick is now formally associated with Bowery King in the struggle against the high table, as stated at the conclusion of Chapter 3, and he has more allies on the outside as well. Winston may have had good intentions for John despite shooting him. Instead of executing him right away, he deceives the Adjudicator into believing him, giving Wick a shot at survival. It aided Winston in opening his Continental hotel in New York, and they will have each other's backs in the forthcoming film as well.

We've seen a few people in the trailer that are difficult to discern as allies or enemies, such as Hiroyuki Sanada. While he appears to have good intentions in warning John not to underestimate the high table, he isn't entirely supportive. Sofia, played by Halle Berry, will most likely have a minor role in the film, and based on their prior history, she will assist John Wick in taking down the high table.

John Wick has Bowery King's backing regardless of how many enemies he battles. While the conflict is being waged on two fronts, clearly by the high table and fellow assassins, Bowery King's army of homeless assassins will help John along the way.

John Challenging the High Table for Freedom

Wick has been at odds with the crime syndicate he has committed his life to for far too long, and it is past time for that to end. Despite slaughtering hundreds, his kill count has been steadily rising, and the only way to prevent other assassins from joining the list is to face the high table. According to the trailer, Wick has a deal to obtain freedom by challenging a member of the high table, who happens to be a sinister-looking Marquis portrayed by Bill Skarsgard.

Although it looks hopeful, given Wick's fighting prowess, it is only partially certain that everyone will play the game fairly, as in the previous two films. Even before the trial, contract killers worldwide would risk their lives to eliminate him. Furthermore, since Wick declined to kill Winston after striking a bargain with the Elder, he would prove to be a massive hurdle for Wick in the next film.

Is Chapter 4 Means to an End or a New Beginning?

While it is unclear how many more films will be made in the franchise, and the fourth installment has yet to be released, fans are already debating if this will be the final film in the saga or whether it will conjure another story for a fresh beginning. With a fifth film in the works, there may be more to the plot, and Keanu Reeves stated in an interview that he would play more movies in the franchise if they proved successful.

With the fourth movie approaching, the narrative appears to be drawing to a conclusion, but just like with the other entries in the franchise, there are always new enemies trying to kill Wick. So, there may be an even greater nemesis than the High Table, or we could get a deeper look at John Wick's past in the next chapter.

While the number of films in the franchise is still being contested, it will take a long time to materialize. Whatever happens, fans will always look forward to sequels from this franchise, just as everyone is anticipating the release of John Wick: Chapter 4 on March 24, 2023.
