John Wick: Chapter 2 is just a couple of short months away from release and Lionsgate has just debuted a brand new, full-length trailer to get us pumped for the return of the legendary hit man. The first movie wound up being a pleasant surprise for many and it is clear that the creative team behind this second installment have pulled no punches this time around. Keanu Reeves is back and fortunately, he brought plenty of bullets with him to go around.
Lionsgate dropped the trailer online today after announcing yesterday that the new John Wick: Chapter 2 trailer was coming. They didn't disappoint. The first trailer for the movie dropped in October during New York Comic Con and this is the first new footage we have seen since then. While the first trailer was much more stylized, this new, action-packed video gets right to the point. John Wick is a hit man and he has a job to do, which is to kill a bunch of bad guys. Here is the synopsis for the movie.
"In this next chapter following the 2014 hit, legendary hitman John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins' guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world's deadliest killers."
There will be plenty of returning characters this time around for John Wick: Chapter 2. Keanu Reeves is returning to reprise his role as the titular character in the franchise, which is good because it would be hard to imagine doing the movie without him.Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, Bridget Moynahan, Thomas Sadoski and Lance Reddick are also returning for this chapter, but the sequel has also added some new cast members for this go around. Riccardo Scamarcio will be playing the new villain, Laurence Fishburne is coming on board as an assassin known as The Bowery King, making this something of a Matrix reunion. In addition, Common, Ruby Rose and Peter Stormare are also set to appear in the movie.
Collider also released a new, exclusive poster for John Wick: Chapter 2, in addition to the studio releasing this crazy new trailer. The poster is simple and effective, featuring Keanu Reeves looking a bit battle hardened and shaded in neon lighting. The poster also features the tagline "never stab the devil in the back," which is something that also comes up in this new trailer. So clearly John Wick is going to have his hands full in the sequel, but it looks like he can handle himself quite well.
The first John Wick was very successful and took many fans and critics by surprise. The movie made $86 million worldwide working from just a $20 million production budget. John Wick: Chapter 2 has upped the budget, and clearly upped the action this time around, but it looks like it is maintaining that simple formula that made the first one so great. Chad Stahelski is directing solo this time around, after co-directing with David Leitch on the first movie, who has moved on to directing Deadpool 2. John Wick: Chapter 2 is set for release on February 10, 2017. Be sure to check out the brand new trailer and John Wick 2 poster for yourself below.
