Legendary composer John Williams has hinted that Indiana Jones 5 could be his final score. Speaking with Associated Press, Williams, now 90 years of age, hinted at his potentially imminent retirement, revealing that he may take a cue from Harrison Ford, who plans to walk away from the role of Indiana Jones following the release of the highly anticipated sequel.

"At the moment I'm working on 'Indiana Jones 5,' which Harrison Ford — who's quite a bit younger than I am — I think has announced will be his last film. So, I thought: If Harrison can do it, then perhaps I can, also."

Over the last few decades, John Williams has become one of the most beloved movie composers of all time. Williams is known for his frequent collaborations with director Steven Spielberg, and has crafted several of the most recognizable theme in cinematic history, including the likes of Star Wars, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, and Jurassic Park.

Williams has been the recipient of 25 Grammy Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards, five Academy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards, and has a total of 52 Academy Award nominations under his belt. Certainly, the day he departs the world of cinema will be a somber one indeed.

While he does hint that Indiana Jones 5 could be his final outing, Williams did go on to tease that he may not be ready to call it a day just yet. In fact, there is one man who could tempt him back: fellow icon Steven Spielberg.

"It's been 50 years now. Maybe we're starting on the next 50. Whatever our connections will be, whether it's music or working with him or just being with him, I think we will always be together. We're great, close friends who have shared many years together. It's the kind of relationship where neither one of us would ever say no to the other."

Directed by James Mangold, who will work from a script he has co-written alongside Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth, Indiana Jones 5 will act as a sequel to 2008's Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and is the fifth installment in the hugely popular, and very much cherished franchise. Harrison Ford will of course return as Indiana Jones, the ruthlessly charming American archeologist and adventurer, with the movie confirmed by Williams to be the final outing as the character for the 79-year-old actor.

Harrison Ford’s return is a big deal for audiences, and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has claimed that Indiana Jones 5 is a worthy ending for the actor and character. "James Mangold has done an unbelievable job with Indy,” Kennedy said. “And he and Harrison [Ford] have an incredible relationship and I think the fans are just going to love what he's created. It's fantastic."

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones, and Antonio Banderas will join Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones 5, which is scheduled for release on June 30, 2023.
