It does not appear that Amber Heard has the means to pay the full amount that's owed to Johnny Depp, but with a little luck on her side, she may not have to. Just recently, a jury found Heard guilty on all three counts of alleged defamation, determining that she had fabricated allegations of abuse to tarnish Depp's reputation. Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and another $5 million in punitive damages, though the latter was reduced to $350,000 because of Virginia state law.

Meanwhile, Depp was found liable for one of three defamation claims due to comments made by his former lawyer about Heard and ordered to pay $2 million. However, he is still seen as the big winner of the trial, as he seems to have cleared his name as he had set out to do. Depp has said that his name is cleared and now wants to "move on together" with his fans and supporters, putting the ugliness of the televised trial behind him.

But what of the payments that Heard owes Depp? Heard's attorneys have stated their intentions to appeal while also noting that the actress does not have that kind of money on hand to pay her ex-husband. She could very well catch a break in this case, however, as Depp might be willing to forgo the financial payments. Depp's lawyers have consistently stated that the trial was "never about money," and in a new Good Morning America interview, attorney Ben Chew suggested that Heard could end up not paying.

"You have said that the goal was not to impoverish Ms. Heard. Is it possible that we could see a settlement where she foregoes the appeal in return for Mr. Depp waving any monetary damages?” George Stephanopoulos asked Chew.

“This was about restoring his reputation, and he has done that,” Chew noted. “We have to be careful what we say, but this was about Mr. Depp’s reputation; that’s what it was about for him. It was like the weight of the world had been taken off his shoulders, and I feel that finally, after six years, he’s gotten his life back.”

There are Amber Heard supporters who feel she was wronged in the trial, but it's clear that the overwhelming majority of the public has been swayed to Depp's side over the course of the legal battle. Certainly, the stigma that was attached to his name in 2016 when allegations of domestic violence against Heard were made public is no longer what it was. Given this new resurgence in popularity, we can be sure that more and more movie roles are soon coming Depp's way.

But will he return to Pirates of the Caribbean? It's possible, given how much fans are clamoring for it, and the legal victory may convince Disney they were wrong about cutting ties with Depp in the first place. The issue there is whether Depp would want to return, as he felt betrayed by Disney firing him and may no longer be interested in the collaboration. In any case, Depp's career is far from over.
