Although it is clear that Johnny Depp was the winner in his recent defamation trial despite not being granted the full compensation he was seeking, it seems that some people in Hollywood still don’t believe that his return to big money blockbusters will be as straightforward as others think. According to News24, an unnamed Hollywood producer who worked with Depp at some point in the past has cast doubt that the much-loved star will have big studios falling over themselves to sign him up, thanks to some of what came to light during the trial.

Millions of people have followed the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard defamation trial over the last month via several live streams. During that time, there were several audio and video recordings played out in court, as well as text messages and other written excepts that have not shown either party in a good light, and according to the anonymous producer, that could be the most significant sticking point for Depp going forward. They said:

"The damage that's done is done, and from this, it might start a process back to some sort of normalcy but I don't think he's going to get big, big, big studio jobs where there's so much on the line. It's too risky to put a guy like that into billion-dollar franchises now. The things he said are vile."

While there is no denying that some objectionable messages from Depp to friends about Heard were put out in court, and his frequent on set issues caused by drink and drug issues at the time were also undeniable, but Depp himself has made no attempt to hide his previous problems and seems to be ready to move on with his life. Whether or not this is something that will turn out to be more complicated than expected is something we can only wait to find out.

Despite the reservations of the unnamed producer, it is clear that Johnny Depp’s popularity has not taken much of a downturn due to anything revealed during the trial. It has already been said by a former Disney executive that there is every possibility the company could seek out Depp to be part of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise again, and while Depp himself has previously commented that he wouldn’t return to the series, that doesn’t mean he won’t be asked.

Depp has been touring the U.K. with musician Jeff Beck in the last week, and was in Newcastle on the day the jury returned their verdict. Since then, it has been said that Depp is now planning to record an album with Beck, and the crowd response to his appearances has been constantly full of adoration. For Depp, this seems to be a time of rebirth and moving on from what has been a traumatic time for the actor. Following the verdict he wrote in a statement, “Speaking the truth was something that I owed to my children and to all those who have remained steadfast in their support of me. I feel at peace knowing I have finally accomplished that." Even though some would disagree, it looks like that support is very much still there and isn’t going anywhere.
