DC Comics has announced a new project with horror legend John Carpenter. The "Year of the Villain" event is reuniting Carpenter with Anthony Burch to write a one-off comic for The Joker. The Joker: Year of the Villain # 1 is a 40 page comic and it will hit the shops just in time for Halloween. "The Joker is the greatest villain in comics. I'm proud to be reunited with Anthony on this project," said Carpenter about the project. This sounds like it could be pretty amazing.

As for the storyline, John Carpenter and Anthony Burch are bringing in Lex Luthor too. In their story, Luthor is going out to recruit other DC villains, but The Joker likes to play by his own rules. This has been proven time and time again. The Clown Prince of Crime just cannot be trusted, even when he's hanging with other villains. You can read the official synopsis below.

"The Joker, being Joker, isn't waiting by the phone for Lex. This puts The Joker on a mission to get his swagger back in a world gone bad by out-badding everyone else, proving that the greatest evil is always the one that leaves them laughing."

Philip Tan and Marc Deering are tackling the illustrating duties for The Joker: Year of the Villain # 1 and a preview image has been released. In the image, the Clown Prince of Crime is in a nice suit with a bowtie, holding a bloody skull next to his face. The villain has his eyes closed and he still looks pretty menacing. The one-shot comic will arrive in stores on October 9th, wherever DC Comics are sold. This may end up getting some horror fans who wouldn't necessarily be into comic books heading in to purchase.

The special issue follows other one-off issues including, Lex Luthor, the Riddler, Green Lantern villain Sinestro, and Black Mask. As for John Carpenter and Anthony Burch working together, they previously worked on Boom! Studios' Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack series. The Joker is also coming back to the big screen this fall with Todd Phillips' new take on the villain and his place in the DC Universe.

Todd Phillips is making a fresh adaptation for his Joker movie and did not use the comics to make his story, which has made some comic book fans angry. With that being said, that won't be the last time we see the Clown Prince of Crime on the big screen. Jared Leto could end up coming back to the role at some point down the line, or maybe a new actor will take on the challenge. Maybe The Joker: Year of the Villain # 1 will be so good that it will get its own movie. The John Carpenter news was first announced by DC Comics. You can check out an image of the Joker below.
