Nicolas Cage as The Joker? It probably will never happen, but it's fun to think about. Especially for the actor himself. When looking for a guy who is able to go off-the-rails in weird roles that most actors wouldn't accept, look no further than National Treasure actor Nicolas Cage. Cage has a plethora of movies under his belt, with each movie seemingly growing stranger and stranger. Despite many people not being able to take Cage seriously anymore, the Oscar-winning actor continues to keep working in his career, and has been going strong for decades, proving his talent to viewers with no regard to the haters.

Cage is certainly no stranger to the comic-book genre of movies, with his most notable feat being the titular role in the two Ghost Rider movies. While Cage has seemingly done all he can in comic-book and superhero movies, he has recently revealed what it would take to bring him back. Nicolas Cage said this in a recent interview.

"I mean, I think my comic book days are kind of...I'm on to other things. But I always thought I'd make a great Joker and I always thought that I would've been a good villain in one of the Marvel [movies] like Doctor Doom. But, Doctor Doom you have to wear that mask, but I thought the story leading up to Doctor Doom could've been interesting. At this point if I was to go back into the format it would probably have to be as a villain... [Joker] would be the perfect one for me to go even more off the rails than I've ever done before and, y'know, it'd be fun."

With Doctor Doom and Joker origin movies in development at FOX and DC, the idea of Cage starring as either of these two villains is entirely possible. While most people would probably rather see Cage go the route of the Joker, considering he is a wildly more popular villain, it could be just as interesting to see him take on the role of Doctor Doom. While his acting could be constrained by the mask, as Cage mentioned, he could still put on a remarkable performance, showing Von Doom's descent into madness.

Later this year, Nicolas Cage makes his return into the comic-book movie industry in Teen Titans Go! To The Movies, where he will voice Superman. Previously, Cage was signed on to play the iconic superhero Superman in Tim Burton's Superman Lives, before it was abruptly cancelled. Even though we won't see Cage as the Kryptonian in Teen Titans Go! To The Movies, we will still be able to hear him, which can at least give us a glimpse of what his Superman would've been like.

Previously, Nicolas Cage was in talks to play as two other comic-book characters: the Batman villain Scarecrow, and Spider-Man's nemesis the Green Goblin. However, both opportunities fell out for Cage, leading Ghost Rider to become his most villainous comic-book role yet. Cage also appeared in the Kick-Ass series, but he appeared as a mentor in these movies rather than as a villain.

With the number of comic-book movies heading our way in the near future, there is sure to be some form of opportunity for Cage to re-enter the comic-book movie universe, this time as a villain. Whether he plays the Joker or Doctor Doom, as he suggested to JoBlo, or some other villain entirely, there is no question that Cage will be great.
