Alita: Battle Angel, a cyberpunk action film, was directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau. The movie is based on the Japanese manga series, Gunnm, created by Yukito Kishiro. The film tells the story of Alita, a young battle cyborg who awakens with no memory of her past in a dystopian future world. Alita is discovered by Dr. Ido, a compassionate doctor, who recognizes that she is not just a mere machine, but rather a young woman with a remarkable history trapped inside a cyborg shell. Together, they embark on a journey to unravel the secrets of Alita's past and discover her true identity.

Recently, producer Jon Landau spoke about the potential sequel during an interview with Screen Rant, providing some exciting updates on the progress of Alita 2. Landau confirmed that talks for the sequel are underway, and that he has discussed the project with both director Robert Rodriguez and star Rosa Salazar. Landau further explained how Avatar: The Way of Water will influence Alita 2 by providing advancements in facial nuance and subtlety for humanoid characters. He noted that the technology used in Avatar has allowed for the creation of characters like Alita, and that the progress made in The Way of Water will further improve the quality of humanoid characters in future projects.

"We're working on it. I think what we've learned from Avatar is how much more facial nuance and subtlety that we can get into characters that we want to be emotional and emote that are humanoid. Alita would not have been possible, but for what we did on Avatar. Avatar: Way of Water would not be what it is but what we did for Alita. And now let's put that back and give it back to Alita. We're talking to Robert and talking to Rosa and all is good."

Alita: Battle Angel left fans on a cliffhanger ending, and they have been clamoring for a sequel ever since. One of the most exciting developments in recent years regarding the Alita sequel is the unwavering dedication of both James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez to make it a reality. The two directors have made it clear that they are committed to bringing Alita back to the big screen. Cameron has provided Rodriguez with over 600 pages of notes on the world and characters of Alita to aid in the writing process, indicating that there is still much story left to tell.

“For me, it’s a journey of discovery. You set down a path, and you’ve got some vague goals in mind. I just start writing a lot of notes. But you know this, because I gave you 600 pages of notes on “Alita” — about the world and how cyborgs work. I don’t know how helpful any of that was, but that’s my process,” Cameron revealed.

Meanwhile, fans of the first movie, known as the "Alita Army," have launched numerous campaigns to show their support for a sequel, including online petitions and social media campaigns. With both the filmmakers and fans passionately pushing for a sequel, it seems that Alita's journey is far from over.
