From the moment Jonathan Majors appeared as He Who Remains in the finale of Loki’s first season, it was clear that there were bigger things planned for his character…or at least another version of it. Now it has become apparent exactly how big a role that will be, with He Who Remains and his Kang counterparts from across the Marvel multiverse set to be the next big bad of the MCU. Having only made his feature film debut in 2017, Jonathan Majors is now about to become one of the biggest stars of the biggest movie franchise of all time, and he is taking it mostly in his stride.

Majors was first announced as being cast as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and at the time, it was assumed that this would be a one-off appearance. However, by the time he appeared in Loki as the man keeping the Sacred Timeline in check, it was clear that there were other plans afoot for Kang, but it is only in the last week that the extent of Kang’s importance in the next two phases of the MCU has come into focus. Now Majors has talked about how it feels to be the significant villain of the Multiverse Saga. He told ET Canada:

"It feels cool. You know, the whole thing is of cultural significance. And so, to be of titular significance, whatever that means, it's humbling actually. You know, you just want to get to work, you just want to see the script and start, you know? Start and fail and mess up and you know, memorize the lines and do all the stuff I wanted to do since I was a little boy in Texas."

The MCU Multiverse Saga Now Has a Roadmap

Avengers Secret Wars
Marvel Comics

While fans have spent the last two years conjuring theories of Galactus and Mephisto coming into the MCU, it is now clear that those theories will have to wait a few years to be realized, which they surely will be in later phases. Kevin Feige has laid down the plan of where the next phases of the MCU are going to end up, and all roads lead to an epic showdown between the Avengers and possibly multiple versions of Kang the Conqueror.

Of course, there is a lot of storytelling to come before we arrive at Avengers: Secret Wars in November 2025, and that includes a first glimpse at the power of Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. What is now to be revealed is exactly just how powerful this iteration of the character will be and where he leads the MCU next. With several other movies and TV still to be announced for Phase Six, there are many other opportunities for different versions of Kang to appear before the big Avengers double bill that will close off the Multiverse Saga and pave the way for a whole new one.
