Joseph Fiennes is going up against German flying ace Manfred von Richthofen in writer-director Niki Muellerschoen's historical epic The Red Baron, according to Variety.

Fiennes will play Roy Brown, the Canadian pilot credited with shooting down the Teutonic top gun in 1918 during the final months of World War I.

The English-language production, which recounts von Richthofen's career as World War I's most celebrated flyer, is shooting in Prague.

The Red Baron stars Matthias Schweighoefer as the titular hero, with Lena Headey (The Brothers Grimm) as his love interest and Til Schweiger as Richthofen's flying buddy.

The film has a budget of $22.5 million.
