While Joseph Gordon-Levitt is going from one "soldier movie" to another with Stop Loss and G.I. Joe, the actor is quick to state that there are few similarities between the two movies. Speaking to film critic Leonard Maltin for Reelz Channel, Levitt described the movie as being "just fun."

Levitt was unable to go into much detail about the film based on the 1980s cartoon, but did state that there was a significant difference in tone between his two soldier films. "Stop Loss is a soldier movie. Stop Loss is about what it's like to be a soldier... G.I. Joe has nothing to do with that. G.I. Joe is about what it's like to be an action figure."
