More than two years after setting up a sequel to Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, New Line Cinema is finally moving forward with not one but two sequels. Journey 3 and Journey 4 will be written by Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes (The Conjuring).

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island stars Dwayne Johnson and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their roles as Hank, a Navy code breaker, and his stepson Sean. Both Journey 3 and Journey 4 may be filmed back-to-back, depending on everyone's schedules.

Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island) were first hired to write the Journey 3 script back in 2012, but now the producers are going in a different direction with Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes' take. No plot details have been released at this time. Beau Flynn and Charlotte Huggins are producing, with Sam Turner serving as executive producer.

Aside from their work on The Conjuring, Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes most recently wrote the script for Dwayne Johnson's upcoming 3D disaster movie San Andreas, and they are also working on another project the actor is attached to, MGM's Seal Team 666.
