In an attempt to add a much-needed comedic element to the upcoming 3D sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, cult icon Luis Guzmán has been added to the cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Guzmán will play father to franchise newcomer Vanessa Hudgens.

In the film, Josh Hutcherson returns to reprise his role from Journey to the Center of the Earth. This time out, he will be accompanied by Dwayne Johnson on a trip to a mythical and monstrous island in order to find his missing grandfather (Michael Caine).

Hudgens is set to play a beautiful Pacific Islander who gets swept up in the adventure. Guzmán, as her father, will play a boatman hired by Hutcherson and Johnson to take them to the island. Comedy hi-jinks will ensue.

Principle photography on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is currently underway in Hawaii.
