Edgar Ramirez is in final talks to star in Fox 2000's biopic Joy, alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro. The plot is based on the true story of Joy Mangano, a Long Island housewife who achieved fame and fortune by creating the Miracle Mop. Jennifer Lawrence is playing the title character, and if a deal is finalized, Edgar Ramirez will play her husband, Tony.

Robert De Niro signed on last month to reunite with Silver Linings Playbook co-star Jennifer Lawrence and director David O. Russell on this biopic. The actor also had a brief cameo in last year's Jennifer Lawrence/David O. Russell collaboration American Hustle. Robert De Niro is playing Joy Mangano's father in the biopic, although no other cast members have been announced at this time.

David O. Russell is directing from a screenplay originally written by Annie Mumolo (Bridesmaids), which the filmmaker himself rewrote. John Davis, John Fox and Ken Mok are producing, with shooting scheduled to begin in February. 20th Century Fox has already set a Christmas Day 2015 release for Joy. Edgar Ramirez most recently starred in Deliver Us from Evil and The Liberator earlier this year. He will next be seen in Hands of Stone and the Point Break remake.
