Actress Olivia Thirlby has joined the cast of the upcoming sci-fi reboot Judge Dredd, according to Variety.

The Juno actress will portray Cassandra Anderson, a telepathic rookie cop who gets mentored by Karl Urban's title character. Anderson didn't appear in the previous 1995 Judge Dredd movie, which starred Sylvester Stallone. The story this time out centers on a future where officers of a special police unit are given the sole power of being judge, jury and executioner to whomever they deem to be a criminal. And it has been noted that Judge Dredd will not be taking off his helmet.

Pete Travis (Vantage Point) is directing from a script by Alex Garland (28 Days Later). It was said that the budget has been set at $45 million and will start filming in South Africa sometime later this year.
