Back in 2017, director Jake Kasdan's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle starring Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Nick Jonas was a massive hit scoring a total of $962 million worldwide. The movie became the fifth-highest-grossing film of 2017 and the 40th highest-grossing film of all time. So naturally, this means that this Christmas, Johnson, Black, Hart, Gillan, and Jonas will return to the jungle for Kasdan's sequel Jumanji: The Next Level. And today we have the trailer for you guys to check out.

This sequel will see the return of Dwayne Johnson as Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Jack Black as Professor Sheldon Oberon, Kevin Hart as Franklin "Mouse" Finbar, Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse, and Nick Jonas as Jefferson "Seaplane" McDonough. They will be rejoined by the first movie's teen cast that includes Alex Wolff as Spencer Gilpin, Madison Iseman as Bethany Walker, Ser'Darius Blain as Anthony "Fridge" Johnson, and Morgan Turner as Martha Kaply. On top of that, Colin Hanks is expected to return as Alex Vreeke and will be joined on this new adventure by Awkwafina, Danny DeVito, Danny Glover, Rhys Darby, Massi Furlan, and Dania Ramirez.

There isn't an official synopsis for this sequel yet, but I think it's safe to assume it will mostly retread the plot of the first movie - but, you know, take things to the next level, as it were. For reference, the first movie centered on four high school kids who discover the titular board game has now transformed into a video game console and are quickly sucked into said game for a variety of adventures. The kick is that they aren't themselves in the game but now avatars played by the all-star cast mentioned above. I watched the flick with my kids last year, and it wasn't half-bad. I assume this means I'll be shelling out for this sequel as well. Time will tell.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was directed by Jake Kasdan from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, Scott Rosenberg, and Jeff Pinkner based on a story by Chris McKenna based on the children's book by Chris Van Allsburg. Matt Tolmach and William Teitler produced the reboot which featured music by Henry Jackman, cinematography by Gyula Pados, and editing by Mark Helfrich and Steve Edwards. Columbia Pictures, Matt Tolmach Productions, Seven Bucks Productions, and Radar Pictures were the production companies behind the movie which was distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing into a theater near you back on December 20, 2017.

That flick was a ereboot of director Joe Johnston's 1995 Jumanji movie which starred Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, David Alan Grier, Bonnie Hunt, Jonathan Hyde, and Bebe Neuwirth. Meanwhile, Jumanji: The Next Level will once again be helmed by Jake Kasdan from a screenplay written by Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia join Matt Tolmach and William Teitler as producers this time around. Sony Pictures Releasing will unleash Jumanji: The Next Level into your local multiplex on December 13, 2019. This trailer comes to us via Sony Pictures.
