Universal's Jurassic World 2 is getting ready to start production in early 2017, with original Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard set to return. Today we have word that two new cast members have signed on to star, with Toby Jones and Rafe Spall coming aboard. Now new character detauls have been released at this time.

Variety reports that producers are looking to cast two more important roles, but they wanted to get out the offers to these actors before making a decision on the rest of the incoming cast. Plot details are being kept under wraps at this time, but we learned last month that Jake Johnson's Lowery will not be returning. There was also a recent casting call that offered more details about another pivotal character.

Last month, a casting call revealed that the producers are looking for a young girl to play a character named Lucy. The girl must be at least nine years old by February 2017, when filming is said to begin, with the filmmakers looking for a girl who can handle "long and complex scenes." The girl who plays Lucy, "must be able to handle a range of emotions from tender moments with her father, to anxiety, bravery, and shock." It's possible that Toby Jones or Rafe Spall is playing Lucy's father.

Juan Antonio Bayona is directing Jurassic World 2 from a script by original Jurassic World writer-director Colin Trevorrow and his co-writer Derek Connolly. It has been confirmed that this sequel will be the second installment of a new trilogy. Juan Antonio Bayona has not been confirmed to return for a third movie. Universal has set a June 22, 2018 release date for Jurassic World 2, which doesn't have any direct competition, but it does come between The Incredibles 2 (June 15, 2018) and an untitled Fox Marvel project (June 29, 2018).

Toby Jones most recently starred in the sci-fi thriller Morgan and he will next be seen in The Coldest City, which hasn't been given a release date quite yet. Rafe Spall most recently starred in The BFG for Steven Spielberg who serves as an executive producer of Jurassic World 2, and the HBO series Roadies. With principal photography set to begin this February on Jurassic World 2, hopefully we'll have more casting updates soon.
