Will Jeff Goldblum return once more as Dr. Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World 3? Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom hasn't even made its way to theaters yet, but Universal is already planning a cap to the new trilogy and recently announced a 2021 release date. Goldblum is returning as Ian Malcolm for the first time in more than 20 years in Fallen Kingdom, but now that the third movie has been announced, people are already wondering if he's going to finish it out. Unfortunately, he's being a bit cagey on his potential involvement in Jurassic World 3 for right now.

Jeff Goldblum recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live and was taking fan questions from callers. One woman asked what was going on with his involvement in the new Jurassic Park movies and whether or not Laura Dern was actually going to come back as Ellie Sattler, which he recently hinted at. Addressing the first part of the question, Goldblum discussed his role in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and frustratingly danced around his potential return in Jurassic World 3. Here's what he had to say about it.

"Jurassic World is a trilogy. Colin Trevorrow directed and wrote the first one. He directed that Jeep commercial that I did on the Super Bowl, with me playing the character. He wrote this one [Fallen Kingdom] that J.A. Bayona directed, in which I have a scene in front of the senatorial committee talking about dinosaurs. And then there's gonna be another one which some people may or may not be in. That's all I can say."

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from all of that is when Jeff Goldblum says he has "a scene" in Jurassic World 2. It's been made clear for some time that Ian Malcolm isn't going to have a large role in the sequel, but it sounds like he's literally going to be involved in a single scene. On the one hand, that's a bit of a bummer. On the other hand, it could leave the door wide open for his return in Jurassic World 3.

As for the other part of the question, what's going on with Laura Dern? The actress has said that she wants to come back as Ellie Sattler for the final Jurassic Park movie and, while it doesn't look like she's going to be in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, there's a good chance she could appear in the finale of the trilogy. Jeff Goldblum also addressed this but, again, couldn't say much.

"Maybe I said too much. I don't know for sure. I can't divulge anything, but maybe...maybe she will."

There's something about the way Goldblum says this that makes it look like he knows more than he's letting on. Even if he does, his lips are sealed. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom arrives in theaters on June 22. Jurassic World 3, which is being written by Emily Carmichael and Colin Trevorrow, is currently dated for June 11, 2021.
