The Jurassic World movies have given us dozens of new dinosaurs that didn’t appear in the original Jurassic Park trilogy, and now the animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is taking the franchise one step further by introducing other prehistoric beasts other than dinosaurs. After five movies, with Jurassic World: Dominion completing the Jurassic World trilogy next summer, we are about to see the world of cloning expand to include the likes of the saber-toothed tiger and more when the fourth season of the spinoff series returns to Netflix on December 3rd.

"I think that it just makes sense that there would be more than dinosaurs out there," showrunner Scott Kreamer told Collider. "There's also the fact that we can do some things and take some swings in our show that they maybe wouldn't or couldn't do in the features. Wherever we can broaden out this world and tell this story and see things that are fresh and new then that's what we want to do."

The latest trailer for Camp Cretaceous’ new season showed the appearance of the saber-toothed tiger, which instantly raised the question of whether the new addition would be seen in Jurassic World: Dominion. Considering the show began as a direct alternative view of the events of Jurassic World, it would not be too much of a stretch to think that there is every possibility of it happening. Kreamer went on to allude that this would indeed be the case in one way or another. “There are certain things that we are setting up here that you're going to see a nod to in Dominion."

Of course the opening sequence from Jurassic World: Dominion was recently released online, introducing the past and taking us into the present where dinosaurs and humans are being forced to co-exist in the same space following the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which saw Isla Nublar destroyed by a volcano and the dinosaurs being taken off the island and into the mainland where this don’t quite go to plan and they prehistoric creatures break out into the world.

Director Colin Trevorrow has previously teased that there will be a host of brand new dinosaurs appearing in the new movie, but didn’t go so far as to say whether this will also expand to include non-dinosaurs. "In this movie we really get to show some dinosaurs that I love that we've been holding onto for a long time, knowing we had the chance to go back to the cretaceous period and see the oviraptor and the giganotosaurus. Several of these are going to play major roles in the film itself."

One of the new dinosaurs that features in the opening of Dominion is the newly discovered species moros intrepidus, of which Trevorrow added, “It's in the movie too, but we're introducing it [in the Dominion prologue]. I like small dinosaurs, maybe because as a kid I imagined having one as a pet. I love that we managed to take something that really was discovered months earlier. We saw an article about it, we looked into it, and we were able to put it into the movie."

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 4 premieres Dec. 3 on Netflix. Meanwhile, Jurassic World: Dominion arrives in theaters June 10, 2022.
