In the trailers for Jurassic World: Dominion, among the many locations teased in the upcoming movie is a dinosaur black market that appears to be crashed by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard’s characters, leading to an epic chase with Pyroraptors through the streets of Malta. This plotline focuses on the secret dinosaur auctions that featured toward the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom before the dinosaurs were set free. Now, director Colin Trevorrow has been explaining a little more about that location and how it features in the movie.
Jurassic World: Dominion is taking the franchise to places that no other Jurassic franchise outing has, with dinosaurs being seen around the world and no longer contained within a single location. We have seen dinosaurs in the snow, in forest and jungle settings, and in the middle of Malta. In the latter of these locations, the dinosaurs are not quite as free as they are in other parts of the world and are instead exchanging hands for large sums of money in an illegal trade that is clearly booming in the years that have passed since the events of Fallen Kingdom. About this, Trevorrow told Total Film:
"There is one city. There’s a sequence in Malta. The dinosaurs didn’t come there by choice. Malta is really the hub for the dinosaur underground black market. It’s where they’re imported and exported, bought and sold. And that’s part of our world, too – the animals are displaced from their natural habitat, as they were in the last movie, and brought to other places where they don’t necessarily belong. And chaos can easily ensue there..."
Jurassic World: Dominion Features More Dinosaurs Than Any Other Jurassic Movie
Many dinosaurs have been seen throughout five Jurassic movies, from the ever-present T-Rex and Velociraptors to lesser-seen species such as the Compsognathus, which was last featured in The Lost World, and the Baryonyx, which finally made its debut in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Jurassic World: Dominion is not only set to feature some long-absent fan favorites such as the Dilophosaurus, which has not been seen since its fateful meeting with Dennis Nedry as he attempted to escape Jurassic Park with a container full of stolen embryos, but also brand-new dinosaurs such as the Giganotosaurus, and numerous other species as seen throughout the previous movies.
With its epic scope, it is no wonder that Jurassic World: Dominion is also one of the longest movies in the franchise, and that means there is not only plenty of screen time for the star attractions but also the human stars, including Jurassic Park’s Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, who will once again be facing some of the most ferocious beasts to have ever walked the Earth as they did almost 30 years ago.
As far as legacy sequels go, Jurassic World: Dominion is not holding back in making sure that everything fans of the Jurassic franchise want are not only in the movie but a prominent part of the storyline as well. With the box office currently being dominated by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Jurassic World: Dominion will arrive on June 10 as the next movie to attempt to claim the top spot as the highest-grossing film of 2022.
