Jurassic World: Dominion will bring back three of the original Jurassic Park stars in the form of Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, who will reprise their roles of Alan Grant, Elle Satler and Ian Malcolm, respectively. Following the disappointing "blink and you miss it" appearance of Goldblum's Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, fans were originally skeptical about how much time on screen the legacy cast would have in the new movie for fear of feeling duped again. However, director Colin Trevorrow has alleviated worries by revealing a bit more about the amount of screen time the three characters will have in Jurassic World: Dominion and how their stories will play out in the film.

In the Total Film 2022 Preview, Trevorrow explains that the much loved Jurassic Park characters will see as much screen time as Chris Pratt and Dallas Bryce Howard in the movie, which seems to suggest that fans are about to get exactly what they want from the sixth film in the Jurassic Park franchise. Trevorrow says:

"They’re not together the entire time, but we are following both of their stories equally, and you have a sense that they’re going to collide at a certain point. There’s this tension. It’s not structured necessarily in a way that we’re used to seeing our Hollywood movies structured. But it works."

Since appearing in Jurassic Park, Sam Neill has reprised his role once for Jurassic Park III, which also featured a cameo appearance by Dern, while Jeff Goldblum took the lead as Ian Malcolm in The Lost World, which featured the first time dinosaurs were seen making a journey onto the mainland with devastating results. With Trevorrow's previous comments that the latest movie will be a "celebration of the entire Jurassic Park franchise" and saying that the film is a "culmination of one story" that has been told since the original Jurassic Park film, these latest comments are even more intriguing as to how the characters will make their respective appearances and how they will then come together.

Jeff Goldblum previous teased the characters' appearance in the sequel, saying: "The first thing that we shot ... it was a scene with me and Laura Dern and Sam Neill and we were – I can't tell you much – but we were all day in a very tight, enclosed space," he revealed. "You'll see – it's a mystery you'll solve when you see [the movie.] The three of us were in a tiny little space and we were being menaced by – I can't even tell you – a surprising faction of prehistoric creatures that you've never seen before."

Considering Trevorrow's comments about the movie not being structured as expected, will this mean that some of the characters will be seen in some kind of historical context, perhaps showing them in the past leading up to the culmination that the director has hinted at, or will they simply be spread in different locations until later in the film's runtime? All will be revealed in June 2022 when the movie arrives in cinemas.
