Jurassic World Dominion has only just begun its cinematic run, but the film is already being prepared for its home release in the not-too-distant future. Now after director Colin Trevorrow suggested that an extended director’s cut could be on the way, an image on Blu-Ray.com has suggested that the extended cut will be coming as part of the Blu-Ray and DVD release of the movie. As shared by Jurassic Outpost on Twitter, the image hints that the release with contain both the theatrical cut of the movie as well as an extended version.
In recent comments, Trevorrow has revealed that around 15 minutes were cut from the movie, which seems to include the original opening sequence set in the Cretaceous period, which saw dinosaurs roaming the earth millions of years ago and included an early fight between the Giga and the T-Rex. The sequence then cut to the current world, with the Rex crashing into a movie drive in an and being chased down by BioSyn agents. Although this whole opening segment was seen as a special preview on IMAX screens last year, the footage was cut from the theatrical release of the movie. Now it looks like this could be just one of the things restored for the home release.
Trevorrow spoke about this and other moments with Collider. He explained:
"There is a scene, and if people have seen the movie, by the time we talk about it, when we're in the amber clave market, the underground market in Malta. There is a scene where our Lystrosaurus, which is the animal that ends up in the fight ring with Chris Pratt sitting next to Kayla has a fight with an Oviraptor. And it's honestly one of my favorite things in the movie, and it's not in the movie. You'll get a chance to see it someday. But it's just one of those kinds of moments that you can kind of tell that it's the 12-year-old who was allowed to make the film, coming forward and doing a sequence. So that one's pretty dope."
Colin Trevorrow Didn’t Want To Make An Over-Long Movie
While cinemagoers have grown accustomed to movies lasting well over two hours, Colin Trevorrow was very aware that at around 140 minutes, Jurassic World Dominion is already a long movie, and he didn’t want audiences to feel like it went on too long. Continuing in the same interview, the director explained that how it comes across is something that everyone will make their own opinions of, but for him the experience is what it is all about. He said:
“I think oftentimes movies can feel a little long. So I think it's something that everyone's going to have their own opinion on. I think the movie we have moves in a way that doesn't feel like it's a two-hour and 20-minute movie. And that's what's most important. It's not the length of the movie. It's the experience you have while watching it and the pace of it while you watch it. I'm very proud of the movie. And yet I'm also really excited that we have more stuff to share with people."
