It was Just Jen—O.K., and it was the introduction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's newest mutant Avenger, Mister Immortal—during the sixth episode of the Marvel Studios series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Just Jen: Attorney at Law, titled "Just Jen."

In the sixth episode of the Disney+ series She-Hulk, Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) attends an awkward Thursday wedding for the "Friends of Lulu" (a meta nod to the Friends of Lulu organization, which popped up in response to the state of the comic book industry in the early 1990s). Meanwhile, her best friend and GLK&H paralegal Nikki (Ginger Gonzaga) stays behind to help Mallory Book (Renée Elise Goldsberry) with a "divorce case" featuring a founding Avenger, Mister Immortal. And this is a Hulk-sized divorce case with Mister Immortal having swindled over half a dozen wives (and one husband) over the years because he hates having "tough conversations" with his partners.

Instead of asking for a divorce and having that "tough conversation," Mister Immortal will commit suicide to get out of the relationship. Eventually, these wives and one husband get wise to Mister Immortal's fraud through an online forum called Intelligencia and sue him for damages. If this sounds like a dark plot to you, it is. But it is also a plot inspired by a Mister Immortal story straight from the Marvel comic books.

Mister Immortal's 'Never-Ending Crapfest' Life

Mister Immortal GLA Misassembled
Marvel Comics

Created by John Byrne, Mister Immortal is a mutant (but better) who first appeared in The West Coast Avengers volume 2 #46 (July 1989) by Byrne, Mike Machlan, Bill Oakley, and Bob Sharen, he has the ability to die and then come back to life. His body can regenerate from any injury (but it's extremely painful): being shot, suffocated, stabbed, drowned, crushed, starved, dehydrated, exploded, poisoned, decapitated, irradiated, and incinerated.

In Marvel Comics, Mister Immortal's powers didn't manifest until he attempted suicide. In GLA: Misassembled #1 by Dan Slott, Paul Pelletier, Rick Magyar, Wil Quintana, and Dave Lanphear, Before becoming Mister Immortal, he has a relationship with his foster sister Terri, which ends in her suicide. Following Terri's death, Craig jumps off a building, grief-stricken, and his first suicide attempt in a string of suicide attempts, only to discover that he cannot die. With this ability, Craig takes the codename Mister Immortal and forms the Great Lake Avengers, a regional offshoot of the Avengers based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with founding members Flatman, Doorman, Big Bertha, Dinah Soar, and Leather Boy.
