Before Zack Snyder attempted to bring Justice League to the big screen and long before Joss Whedon Frankensteined together the version that eventually did hit theaters, Warner Bros. was developing Justice League Mortal in 2006, from the guy who brought us the world of Mad Max. The movie made it to the pre-production stage, but it was later canceled. Now, nearly 12 years later, we finally have our first look at what all of our heroes would have looked like under the direction of George Miller, and it's pretty cool.

As it turns out, George Miller's version of Justice League would have paid homage to the comics in a visual way. All of the costumes shown off here look like all of the characters just stepped out of a 90s comic. Except for Batman, these were pretty faithful to their four-color counterparts. The image is pretty low quality, but there was another image released of D.J. Cotrona as Superman, and it looks pretty cheesy to be honest. It does look fairly close to the comic books, but it also looks like a $50 costume with weird underwear attached to it. It's the only close-up image that has been leaked, but it's imagined that the rest of the costumes had the same aesthetics.

George Miller's Justice League had Armie Hammer playing Batman, Megan Gale as Woman Woman, Adam Brody as The Flash, Common as Green Lantern, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, and Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter. However, the superhero team up movie hadn't really been proven for DC at that time. Fox was still doing okay with the X-Men franchise, and Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy was offering a new, dark take on the Caped Crusader that many fans were and are still gravitating towards today.

D.J. Cotrona previously talked about George Miller's vision, explaining that it was "operatic and big and expansive." He went on to compare the story to the Greek Gods and claims that type of superhero story has yet to be told, mentioning unique Batman and Superman story arcs. Armie Hammer mentioned at the end of last year that Miller's Batman was "deranged." Part of the story has leaked out over time and part of it would have involved a fight between a brainwashed Wonder Woman and Superman, which resulted in some broken wrists for Diana Prince. The fight was said to be brutal and insiders say that George Miller's Justice League was going to be "ballsy."

While we'll never get to see what George Miller had in mind for Justice League, these new images are pretty amazing to look at. From what everybody close to the project has said, the costumes would probably have been the tamest things about the movie. Brutal infighting, deranged characters, and Greek Gods sounds pretty awesome and a lot better than what we all ended up with when the DCEU released Justice League late last year. The movie is the lowest earning movie in DCEU history, which should tell the studio something. Regardless, you can check out the costumes from George Miller's ill-fated superhero ensemble below, thanks to The Real James' Twitter account.
