Justice League is just about a year away from arriving in theaters. The movie has a lot on its shoulders, given the lukewarm response to the movies in the DC Extended Universe so far and the fact that it will be the first time the team will be seen together in live-action. It looks like the movie may be delivering on a big promise made in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice though, as the big, bad villain Darkseid will appear, according to a new report.

Earlier in the year, Heroic Hollywood reported that Darkseid would appear in some sort of flashback sequence in Justice League. Now a new report from The Wrap appears to confirm that he will appear in the prologue of the movie. Here is what they had to say.

"Darkseid's presence will loom large in Justice League as the film's prologue introduces the New God while ancient Amazonians, Atlanteans, and pre-historic humans fight him off Earth."

During Batman's weird dream sequence in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, the presence of Darkseid was heavily teased, so it seemed inevitable that he would show up at some point in the DCEU. There had been plenty of rumors that Darkseid would have some presence in Justice League, but this description implies a pretty heavy presence, at least in one scene. It also teases a larger connection between Aquaman and Wonder Woman to Darkseid, since the Atlanteans and Amazonians will be doing battle with him. Not only that, but Umberto Gonzalez, who wrote this new article for The Wrap and self-proclaimed "Ace Scooper" teased the character on his Twitter account yesterday with a picture of Darkseid. Just to give an idea of how powerful and evil Darkseid is, here is a description of the character from the DC Database Wikia page.

"Unto the hell that is Apokolips came Darkseid, pure hatred personified, a merciless tyrant who demanded unwavering devotion and abject fear from all his subjects. A being of unparalleled strength, Darkseid nevertheless preferred not to sully his gloves with combat unless provoked to action. His eyes emitted the formidable Omega Sanction, ray beams that could disintegrate, teleport, or resurrect depending on the dread lord's wishes. His sole mission in life was to find and gain control over the Anti-Life Equation which would give him the means to usurp all free will in the sentient universe."

So yeah, he is definitely a force to be reckoned with. However, he won't be the main bad guy facing the members of the Justice League this time around. That honor goes to Steppenwolf, a relative of Darkseid, who was also teased in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice via a deleted scene. He is an immortal with superhuman strength and a gifted military leader. He also survived an attack from Doomsday, the monster that kills Superman in the comics and the one that killed him at the end of Batman V Superman. The character is being played by Game of Thrones star Ciaran Hinds.

Justice League features a cast led by Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman (who will be brought back to life somehow in the movie), Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash and Ray Fisher as Cyborg. It is unclear if Darkseid will just appear as a CGI character on screen, or if Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder have pulled a fast one and cast someone to do some motion capture and voice work. We'll see when the Justice League movie hits theaters on November 17, 2017, and probably more so in Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019.
