Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released a new photo from its next DC Universe Original Animated Movie, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, giving fans their first look at Aquaman, voiced by Matt Lanter. We first reported on this project back in June, when it was revealed that a sneak peek will be included on the Batman: Assault on Arkham Blu-ray and DVD arriving August 12. This project will be a direct sequel to Justice League: War, which is adapted from the New 52 DC Comics reboot, but will also feature some key differences from the comic.

The story follows young Arthur Curry being raised by his human father, who doesn't know that he is the heir to Atlantis, as a war begins to brew between the underwater kingdom and the surface dwellers above.

Here's what producer James Tucker had to say about this version of Aquaman.

"We meet him at a low point in his life. He's a little bit lost. His father has died and he's always been an outsider, so the one person who had his back is now gone. When that Atlanteans instigate incidents to escalate a war with the surface world, he doesn't yet know who he is. As he discovers his true history he's going to have a lot of choices to make. It's definitely about him finding his own path."

While Aquaman has yet to show up in a live-action DC Comics adaptation, die-hard fans have been clamoring for an adventure like this for years. However, while the general public may remain skeptical about an Aquaman movie, James Tucker revealed he wants to change their perspective on who this superhero really is.

"A lot of times with Aquaman people just focus on his powers and their opinion of them as being lame - which I don't believe - and that's all they think of him. Hopefully we've made him a person in people's eyes first. And then the powers and the telepathy with fish and all that can be put in perspective."

Matt Lanter leads the voice cast of Aquaman, with many of the Justice League: War actors returning for this sequel, such as Jason O'Mara (Batman), Shemar Moore (Cyborg), Christopher Gorham (The Flash) and Sean Astin (Shazam). The cast is rounded out by several Warner Animation veterans including Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern), Rosario Dawson (Wonder Woman) and Jerry O'Connell (Superman), along with Sam Witwer as Aquaman's brother Orm, who is behind the effort to start a war, and Sumalee Montano as Mera, Aquaman's future queen.

James Tucker also spoke about character designer Phil Bourassa's new look for Aquaman, inspired by Jim Lee's New 52 design.

"He's got a little bit of a surfer dude quality in that his hair's a little unruly, but he's got the stature and nobility that people expect from Aquaman."

Justice League: Throne of Atlantis will be released on Blu-ray and DVD in early 2015.
