Ever since Jonathan Majors made his appearance as He Who Remains in Loki, fans have been wondering just how the character will look the next time we see him in his full Kang the Conqueror glory when he returns as the antagonist of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Thanks to an image of a wrap gift from the new adventure for Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne, we now have our very first hint at what the potentially destructive force in the MCU will look like and it seems that they have remained faithful to the villain’s comic book appearance.

In a tweet by stunt team member Ace Ruele, which has since been deleted, the shared image shows Ruele wearing a shirt marked Stunt Team 2021 and features a badly damaged image of Scott Lang’s Ant-Man helmet, and in a reflection on the remaining side of the helmet can be seen the reflection of Kang, with his familiar purple helmet confirming that the bad guy will be taking on his best known form in the third Ant-Man adventure.

Of course there is as much secrecy around this movie as any other currently on Marvel’s slate, and considering the film appears to have deep links to the multiverse, it is not surprising that Kevin Feige and his team want to keep as much about the plot under wraps with there being so much more to come before we arrive at Quantumania in July 2023, starting with Spider-Man: No Way Home later this month, which will truly kick off the Marvel multiverse that has been teased for so long and now looks like it is going to change the MCU forever.

Jonathan Majors casting as Kang The Conqueror was originally announce late in 2020, and when he made an unexpected appearance in the finale of Loki it instantly kicked a social media frenzy over why Kang The Conqueror was so genial and so “not Kang” in his appearance. Of course the version of the character seen in Loki was not actually the version of Kang that will be seen later in the MCU, but this version was seemingly very important as one of the linchpins holding together the Marvel Universe’s single timeline. Hints that all kinds of chaos could ensue if that timeline were to be broken have been dropped frequently through some of the later movies in the franchise, and we are now on the threshold of seeing where all that will lead, with Majors’ Kang set to have a big part of that towards the end of Phase 4.

While the concept art used in wrap-gifts is usually a pretty good representation of the nature of the movie, as well as giving a first glimpse of Kang, it also raises a question over Ant-Man’s fate in the film. The last time an Avenger’s armor was seen to be this damaged in artwork related to a Marvel movie, it belonged to Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame, and we all know how that ended. We can only hope that this isn’t a portent of a similar fate heading the way of Scott Lang.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will reveal all of its secrets in theaters on July 28th, 2023.
