According to BBC News, twenty-one year old actress Karen Gillian has been chosen to play Doctor Who's new assistant in the upcoming Doctor Who series that will premiere in the spring of 2010 on BBC One. The actress will star alongside recently appoint Time Lord Matt Smith.

Gillian said of the role, "I am absolutely over the moon at being chosen to play the Doctor's new companion. I just can't wait to get started. The show is such a massive phenomenon that I can't quite believe I am going to be a part of it. Matt Smith is an incredible actor and it is going to be so much fun to act alongside him." Head of Drama, BBC Wales, Piers Wenger stated that the young actress brings ""energy and excitement" to the role, claiming, ""When she auditioned alongside Matt we knew we had something special."

Fans of Doctor Who can expect to see the new series in March of next year.
