Doom star, Karl Urban has agreed to star in CBS' miniseries Comanche Moon alongside Ryan Merriman, Elizabeth Banks, Graham Greene and Wes Studi.

Oscar-winning writers Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana (Brokeback Mountain) have developed the show which is a prequel to 1989's Lonesome Dove.

The Hollywood Reporter says Comanche Moon will follow Gus McCrae (Steve Zahn) and Woodrow Call (Urban) through their years as Texas Rangers as they create legends for themselves fighting the Comanche to open West Texas for settlement. In the 1989 adaptation of Lonesome Dove, McCrae and Call were played by Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones, respectively.

In other casting news, Amanda Walsh has landed the female lead in the CBS comedy pilot The Big Bang Theory, which already has landed Johnny Galecki and Jim Parsons in the male roles. The show will focus on a pair of brilliant theoretical physicists (Galecki and Parsons) who meet a woman (Walsh) who shows them how little they know about the real world.
