Fantastic Four has proven to be a bigger hit overseas ($105 million) than in the U.S. ($55 million), but even with $160 million worldwide, this superhero movie is still considered a "bomb" by fans and critics alike. Aside from the weak box office numbers, there have been a number of reports highlighting the erratic behavior of director Josh Trank, which include a controversial tweet he sent out the night before his movie hit theaters. While 20th Century Fox has maintained they still plan on making a sequel at some point, Kate Mara revealed to MTV that she would love to return for a sequel, even though she doesn't think it will happen.

"(It's) unlikely that [a sequel] will happen, but I would love to [do one]. I would love to play Sue Storm in a movie that everybody loves. That would be great."

A representative for 20th Century Fox claimed last month that they are still "committed" to making a superhero sequel, which producer Simon Kinberg reiterated earlier today. Months before the movie opened, the studio set a June 9, 2017 release date for The Fantastic Four 2. Whether or not the studio will actually produce a sequel, after the disastrous box office results of Fantastic Four, remains to be seen. Kate Mara revealed that the director's actions are "highly disappointing" maintained she had a "good time" while making the film.

"It was a tricky shoot but you know... When you know when you're shooting it that a film isn't going to be what you want it to be (sic)? That was not the case at all."

The actress added that she still hasn't seen Fantastic Four yet, adding that but adds that the movie's harsh reviews have made her feel "a little bit gun-shy" about seeing the finished product. She also said that the rest of her cast members "had each other's backs." She added that she's "bummed because we have no idea if we'll ever make another one."
