House of Cards star Kate Mara has signed on to star in Transcendence for Alcon Entertainment. No details were given regarding her character.

Back in December, producer Andrew A. Kosove revealed that the story centers on Will (Johnny Depp), a scientist who uploads his brain into a supercomputer to create artificial intelligence. Paul Bettany and Rebecca Hall also star. Ironically, Kate Mara's sister Rooney Mara was initially considered for one of the lead roles, which was ultimately won by Rebecca Hall.

Wally Pfister, who served as cinematographer on The Dark Knight Rises, Moneyball, and several other films, is making his directorial debut, working from a screenplay by Jack Paglen. The script was developed by Straight Up Films, whose principals Annie Marter, Marisa Polvino, Kate Cohen will produce alongside Andrew A. Kosove, Broderick Johnson, and David Valdes. Straight Up Films' Regency Boies will co-produce. Shooting is scheduled to begin this April.

Aside from her role as Zoe Barnes on House of Cards, Kate Mara most recently starred in the indie thriller Deadfall. She has also starred in Iron Man 2, 127 Hours, Shooter, and had an arc in Season 1 of FX's American Horror Story.
