The Goonies remains one of the most loved movies of the 80s, and is a real Easter egg-filled treasure trove for Steven Spielberg fans. Ke Huy Quan played Richard “Data” Wang in the movie, a kid with a love for making gadgets that sometimes don’t work out exactly as they are expected to – think of a child version of Billy Peltzer’s father in Gremlins, just as a taste of one of the many references to other Spielberg movies. In the 36 years since The Goonies was released, Quan has never been back to the place where he shot the movie, but all that changed when he paid a visit to the Warner Bros. soundstage where part of The Goonies was filmed, and got a little emotional about the moment.

Posting on his Instagram, Quan shared pictures of himself standing by a list of the feature films and TV shows that have been made on Stage 16 over the years, highlighting The Goonies among the many projects that were made on the lot. Along with the images, Quan commented:

“First time back to Warner Brothers' stage 16 in 36 years. This stage is where we filmed the pirate ship scene in The Goonies. I got a bit emotional as all my wonderful memories of my Goonies Gang came flooding back. Fun trivia fact: the floor of this stage opens up and goes down 40 ft deep.”

Ke Huy Quan Recently Reunited With Harrison Ford

A return to the set of The Goonies is not the only reunion that Ke Huy Quan has been part of recently, as the Everything Everywhere All At Once star previously shared images of himself with his Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom co-star Harrison Ford. The pair met up at Disney’s D23 Expo where Ford was appearing as part of the Indiana Jones 5 panel, and Quan, who played Short Round in the second Indiana Jones movie, also happened to be in attendance.

The actor has said that he would have “absolutely” said yes to reprising his role as an adult version Short Round, but obviously with Indiana Jones 5 already wrapped and in post-production without Quan being involved it seems unlikely to happen. However, in a time when streaming spin-off shows are king, who is to say whether Disney couldn’t pull something out of the bag with a Short Round centric spin-off. For now, Quan is just pleased to be back in Hollywood after many years away. He said recently:

"I didn't pursue acting when I was kid. I happened to be at the right place and at the right time when Spielberg and Lucas was looking for an Asian kid to be Indy's sidekick. And I just fell in love with it because it's one of the best profession in the world. Feeling very blessed and grateful to be able to do this again after 2 decades absence."
