While Ke Huy Quan won't appear in the upcoming sequel Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, fans shouldn't count out the return of Short Round. As it stands, the fifth Indiana Jones film is scheduled to hit theaters in June, and the movie's arrival marks the end of an era. Harrison Ford has said that the film will mark his final performance as Indy, though there have been rumors that the franchise could be expanded with potential spinoffs.

One idea that may land well with fans would be for Quan to return as Short Round in his own spinoff series. The former child star, who kicked off his acting career with Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, has been back in the spotlight lately after an acclaimed performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Now more popular than ever, Quan was asked on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Variety) if he'd be up for revisiting Short Round with an Indiana Jones spinoff series, and this is what he had to say.

"I love the character of Short Round. He’s funny and courageous and saves Indy’s ass. If Disney or Lucasfilm ever come to me and say, ‘We want to do a Short Round spin-off’, I’m there man! I love that character so much and it would just be incredible to revisit so many years later.”

For now, fans can only speculate about what might have happened to Short Round. Asked to weigh in on that the character could be up to as an adult nearly four decades later, Quan says he's right there with the rest of us with wondering as much, though it's easy for him to imagine Shourt Round now working as an archeologist given his relationship with Indy.

"I have no idea where he is. Your guess is as good as mine. Just because he looks after Indy so much, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was an archeologist.”

Perhaps Indiana Jones and Short Round may not be seen together on the big screen, but behind the scenes, Ford and Quan recently reunited. Last year, the two reunited at the D23 Expo, as Ford was there to promote Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny while Quan was present for Everything Everywhere All at Once. The two took some photos together and apparently picked right up from where they left off 38 years ago.

"I love you, Indy.' Indiana Jones and Short Round reunited after 38 years," Quan said when sharing the photos on Instagram.
