There has to come a point when Keanu Reeves can have his nice guy persona elevated no higher, but that time has not come yet. The Matrix Resurrections star donated a massive 70 percent of his fee from The Matrix in 1999 toward cancer research, a new report suggests. As one of the few actors in Hollywood that everyone loves, Keanu Reeves has once again stood as a shining example to others with a report by LadBible detailing how the actor donated around $31 million to aid leukemia research. While Reeves is well known for quietly making generous donations, this one is a cause that is close to the star’s heart, with his sister Kim having battled leukemia for ten years before going into remission between 1991 and 2001. At the time, Reeves took time out from acting to care for his sibling, selling his house to move closer to her for as long as she needed him during her fight with the disease. Subsequently, he set up a new charity that has helped support both adults and children living with cancer, but he did not have his name associated with it as he never wanted it to be exclusively linked to his celebrity status. The report also notes that the actor has continued to regularly give additional money to the cause as just one of his many pieces of low-key charity work. Back in 2020, Reeves auctioned off a 15-minute Zoom “date” in aid of Camp Rainbow Gold, a child cancer program, which reportedly was won with a bid of just over $19,000.Reeves has obviously returned to The Matrix franchise recently for the fourth movie, The Matrix Resurrections, and there is no question that he will have quietly used some of the money from the film for one good cause or another that we will get to find out about in a few years’ time as there doesn’t seem to be any point in time when the star hasn’t been seen to think of others ahead of himself. As well as his extraordinary charity, there have been too many stories of the actor’s generosity on the set of his films to mention, but his most recent act was to gift each of his John Wick: Chapter 4 stunt team members with a $10,000 Rolex Submariner each. It is not the first time a stunt team from The Matrix has been on the receiving end of his gift-giving either. Back when filming the movie, Reeves thanked the twelve-man team with a Harley Davidson motorcycle each, which at the time he said was “to give a bigger thank you to all these guys who helped me make this.”When filming The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, Reeves also took a considerable pay cut to allow the crew all the money they needed to make the Matrix sequels with the costumes and special effects that it called for, and even before The Matrix, Reeves reduced his fee for The Devil’s Advocate when he discovered that Al Pacino would not be able to board the project due to its limited budget, purely because he really wanted to work with the legendary actor to learn from him on set. All in all, it seems that there is and never will be any end to the outpouring of good that comes with everything Keanu Reeves touches, and in the current world, a few more people like that are needed.
