Keanu Reeves recently revealed that, in addition to his starring role as Neo in The Matrix Trilogy, he had the opportunity to star in not one but two of the upcoming science-fiction and superhero films. Speaking to MTV, Reeves confirmed that he had, at one point been offered the role of Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen and as Racer X in Speed Racer.
Reeves said that he was interested in the role of Dr. Manhattan in the Zack Snyder's adaptation of the comic created by Alan Moore, but had to pass because it simply "didn't work out." That said, Reeves was still enthusiastic about Watchmen as a film.
"I went to the set," Reeves stated. "They were shooting in Vancouver while we were filming so I went over to the set to say, 'hi.' They showed me some stuff and it looks amazing! I can't wait. It's going to be so killer, man!"
Reeves also said that Wachowski brothers did indeed try to get him to take the role of Racer X in Speed Racer. "I wish [it had worked out]," Reeves said of the role.
Directed by the Wachowski Brothers, Speed Racer stars Emile Hirsch, John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, Christina Ricci, Scott Porter, Matthew Fox and Roger Allam. Speed Racer zooms into theatres May 9, 2008.
Watchmen stars Patrick Wilson, Billy Crudup, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jackie Earle Haley, Malin Akerman, Matthew Goode, Stephen McHattie, Carla Gugino and Matt Frewer. The film opens across America on March 6th, 2009.
