Kellan Lutz, Anton Yelchin and Taryn Manning have joined the growing cast of the indie drama Experimenter, which stars Peter Sarsgaard and Winona Ryder.

The plot is based on the true story of controversial social psychologist Dr. Stanley Milgram (Peter Sarsgaard), who designed the Obedience Experiments at Yale University in 1961. The study examined the behavior of test subjects who thought they were sending electric shock waves to a friendly stranger.

Kellan Lutz is portraying actor William Shatner, who played Milgram in a 1970 TV movie. Anton Yelchin is playing Rensaleer, a man who resists authority, while Taryn Manning will play a test subject named Mrs. Lowe, who is deeply affected by the experiment and rebels against it. Also starring are Anthony Edwards as Miller, the first person to participate in the experiments, and Edoardo Ballerini as Milgram's best friend.

Michael Almereyda (Cymbeline) is directing from his own original screenplay, with production already under way in New York City.

Kellan Lutz is coming off of his starring role in The Legend of Hercules, and he will next be seen in The Expendables 3. Anton Yelchin stars in the upcoming movies Very Good Girls, The Driftless Area and Warcraft, while Taryn Manning can currently be seen on Season 2 of Netflix's Orange Is the New Black.
