Kellan Lutz has signed on for the title role in director Renny Harlin and Millennium Entertainment's Hercules 3D. This project is not to be confused with MGM's Hercules: The Thracian Wars, which has Brett Ratner attached to direct and Dwayne Johnson set to star.

Here's what director Renny Harlin had to say about his leading man.

"It takes more than a good physique to portray the most legendary, mythological personality in history - and Kellan has exactly that, personality. He's not afraid to explore the strengths and vulnerabilities of the character, and he impressed me with his passion and heart."

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but this action-adventure will have a love story at its core, with Hercules falling for the mortal princess of Crete, who was promised to his older brother.

Renny Harlin is directing from a script he co-wrote with Sean Hood and Giulio Steve. The director is also producing with Les Weldon and Danny Dimbort, with Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, John Thompson, and Boaz Davidson executive producing. Production is scheduled to begin this May in Bulgaria, with a budget of $70 million.
