Kevin Bacon is usually more than happy to discuss his own movie projects, but in a recent interview, he had the chance to sing the praises of his daughter Sosie Bacon and her recent success in the horror movie Smile. While Bacon has dipped his toe into the horror genre in movies like Hollow Man and They/Them, and his daughter has shown herself more than capable of following in his footsteps. Bacon said to The Hollywood Reporter:

“She’s great in the movie. She’s fantastic. We didn’t know she was really interested after that in pursuing any kind of an acting career. But when she finally, in her early 20s, decided that this is what she wanted to do, she dropped out of college and moved to L.A. and really started doing all the right stuff. Pounding the pavement, doing self-tape after self-tape, and studying. When she got this part [in Smile], even knowing how hard she had worked, and knowing she was good, when I saw the movie I was just really taken aback with, not only with how great she was but also how hard that role was, because it’s one of those parts where there is no break. Usually, you start out and the character’s pretty happy for at least, you know, 15 minutes or 20 minutes before everything becomes horrible. But that’s a movie where the stress level is [insane]. I was very proud of her. In a weird kind of way, we have a horror tradition in our family. One of my earliest movies was the very first Friday the 13th.”

Kevin Bacon Returns to His Friday the 13th Roots in Blumhouse's Conversion Camp Thriller

Kevin Bacon made his big screen debut in a low-budget horror movie called Friday the 13th. While his character didn’t survive the movie, the film went on to become one of the most prolific horror franchises in cinema history and Bacon went on to keep dropping into the genre with a number of classic movies.

Whether it was serious movies such as Flatliners and Stir of Echoes, or the comedy horror of Tremors, Kevin Bacon has already made his mark on the genre and he doesn’t appear to be done yet as he will be following up this year’s slasher movie They/Them with an appearance as the villain in The Toxic Avenger remake with Peter Dinklage.

It seems that daughter Sosie won’t be too far behind him either, as the success of Smile, which gained praise from critics, audiences and even horror master Stephen King, has put her front and center of many producers and directors minds when looking to cast new movies. While it seems there will not be a sequel to Smile in the immediate future, the actress clearly has a bright future in both the horror genre and in Hollywood in general. Who knows, after being directed by her father on her movie debut back in 2005, perhaps the pair will soon be able to star alongside each other on-screen in the near future.
