Horizon: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kevin Costner is headed west again. The multi-hyphenate -- who directed, produced and starred in last fall's Touchstone Pictures/Beacon Pictures Western Open Range -- has committed to the genre again with Horizon.
Costner will direct and star in the project, which he has set up at Beacon, his representative confirmed Friday. The logline is being closely guarded, but sources familiar with the script and close to Costner were upbeat about the story line and Costner's enthusiasm to get it made. However, there is no guarantee "Horizon" will be his next project, his rep said.
Westerns have been good to Costner. Dances with Wolves, which he directed, produced and starred in, was nominated for 12 Academy Awards at the 1991 Oscarcast and went on to win seven statuettes including best picture and best director. Last year's Open Range was a modest hit with a domestic gross close to $60 million. His other dips into the genre include 1994's "Wyatt Earp" and 1985's "Silverado."
